Recent innovative programs that VSP has developed include:

• Modern technologies to increase access to and quality of care, like the portable eye exam kit  launched in the Illinois market in 2026. 
• Training for network vision providers to increase cultural competency and inclusivity. 

VSP also supports emerging technologies and frameworks in vision care practice including:

• Co-hosting and funding the VSP Vision Innovation Challenge, a global competition to tap into the healthcare innovation ecosystem to uncover new tools and software that can elevate eye care outcomes and experiences. This program enables us to learn from entrepreneurs to provide better solutions for our Medicaid/Medicare members.
• A framework to help vision care innovators think broadly about eye exams, care, and health in their efforts to develop next generation technologies and practices so that our Medicaid/Medicare members can get the most out of their eye exam.
• A guide to help vision care innovators improve assistive technology for individuals with low vision or blindness and help our health plan clients take advantage of emerging technology in this area.
